Negotiations Update

We continue to work with 6070 and UnAc to get fair, affordable healthcare. This past week Tim Powers traveled to Fairbanks and sat in on 6070 negotiations when healthcare was discussed and this week Jane Weber sat in with UnAc. Please wear your buttons showing that all UA employees deserve fair, affordable healthcare. Don’t have a button ? – see your campus representative, or if in Anchorage, stop by the Union Office or contact Marcia Stratton, (in charge of negotiation's communications and PR) to make arrangements to have buttons distributed to your department.
UAFT salary increases for FY08, (our current academic year) were approved by the legislature in May as a part of the University budget. Unfortunately, management's current economic proposal penalizes UAFT Faculty Members by not allowing the salary increases to be retroactive to July 1, 2007 because negotiations were not concluded by June 30, 2007. If you have reviewed the healthcare information we have provided, you can understand why that was not possible, although as we previously indicated UAFT believed we had come to agreement on everything except healthcare by that time.
